An interview gives you the opportunity to showcase your qualifications to an employer, so it pays to be well prepared.

Plan Ahead - Do a little homework!  Research the company and the position if possible as well as the people you will meet with at the interview.  Review your resume carefully and remember details.  Be ready to support past career accomplishments with specific information targeted toward the companies needs.  Have your facts ready!

Role Play – Once you have finished studying, begin role playing (rehearsing).  Write down answers to potential interview questions to make your presentation more concise.  Try your answers to information that pertains to your new employer.

Eye Contact – Maintain eye contact with your interviewer.  Also try to keep your arms unfolded and sit up straight.  Good posture and eye contact reflect an interested and engaged interviewer.

Be Positive – In particular, avoid negative comments about past employers.  Always have something positive to say about your previous positions.

Adapt – Be sensitive to the style of the interviewer.  Pay attention to those details of dress, office furniture, and general décor, which will afford helpful clues to assist you in tailoring your responses.

Relate – Try to relate your answers to the interviewer and his/her company.  Focus on positive achievements relevant to the company.

Encourage – Ask questions about the company and its employees.  Demonstrate an interest in its’ culture.
